If you smell gas near the boiler, this is not a case for a video call. Do not switch lights or appliances on or off, do not use flames, open the windows, close the gas valve at the meter if you can do so safely, leave the house and call your distributor's gas emergency line from outside (the free number is on your bill; for Italgas it is 800 900 999, free, 24 hours a day) or 112. Never open the boiler casing: inside there is gas and electricity.

The most common causes

System pressure too low
This is the most common cause of a lockout. The water in the heating circuit drops because of small leaks or after bleeding the radiators, and the boiler stops to protect itself.

Ignition failure
The burner does not light. The gas may be missing, or the electrode, the part that makes the spark, may be dirty or worn.

Heat exchanger clogged with limescale
The heat exchanger is the part where the water is heated as it passes close to the flame. With hard water, limescale narrows it: hot water that comes and goes, noises, overheating.

Expansion vessel without charge
It is a tank with an air cushion that absorbs the expansion of hot water. When it loses its charge, the pressure keeps rising and falling.

Sensors or control board
A faulty temperature probe or a board defect can show codes that a reset does not clear.
What you can safely check yourself
- Read the pressure on the gauge or display with the boiler cold and compare it with the value in the manual, usually between 1 and 1.5 bar.
- If it is low, top up slowly from the filling valve under the boiler, and close it as soon as you reach the right value.
- Photograph the error code before pressing any button: we need it for the diagnosis.
- Press reset once. If the lockout comes back, do not keep trying.
Never open the boiler or the gas water heater, and always switch off the power before touching an electrical appliance. If in doubt, call us.

How our service works, step by step
The first step is to book: you choose the day and time of the home visit online, and the calendar already allows for the length of the job and the travel. If the boiler stops in the middle of winter and you cannot wait, call us. For emergencies we answer 24 hours a day, including Sundays and public holidays.
If you want to understand the problem first, there is the remote consultation: a video call for 9.90 €, up to 15 minutes, paid by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Mauro, the technician, asks you to show the display, the pressure gauge and the data plate with the model. Often the problem ends there: pressure to top up, a room thermostat set wrongly, a lockout that clears with a reset done the right way.
When a part or a measurement with instruments is needed after the consultation, we book the home visit and the 9.90 € becomes a deposit on the bill, valid for 30 days. If you change your mind before the call, you cancel and we refund everything. Either way, we tell you the price before we start. The most common faults, one by one
Boiler locked out. This is the problem where a video call helps most. The code on the display shows which check has tripped, whether pressure, ignition, temperature or flue gases, and many lockouts clear with a top-up or a reset.
Pressure that keeps dropping. If you often top up the system, the water is going somewhere: a fitting, a radiator, or the safety valve discharging. Or the expansion vessel has lost its air charge and the needle goes up and down.
Hot water that does not arrive or comes and goes. On boilers that are a few years old, limescale is the first suspect. The flow switch can also be involved, that is the sensor that notices you have opened the tap, or the valve that diverts hot water between the radiators and the taps.
Leaks and noises. A drop under the boiler or a new whistle should be looked at early, before the fault spreads. To narrow down the causes it is enough to see the pipes on video or hear the sound over the phone.

The work is carried out by Air Tecnology Impianti di Pezone Mauro, a craft business based in Parete, in the province of Caserta. It is qualified under DM 37/2008 for heating systems (letter C), water systems (letter D) and gas systems (letter E). On your boiler, a qualified technician therefore also works on the gas parts, which you should never touch yourself.

Can I open the boiler to look inside?
No. The casing must only be opened by a qualified technician, because inside there is gas, electricity and flue gases. On your own you can read the pressure, top it up from the filling valve and press reset once.
