E01 and 133 concern gas ignition: the boiler panel stays closed and the gas valve is not touched. If there is a smell of gas in the house, stop dealing with the boiler: do not operate switches, lights or appliances, no flames, open the windows, close the gas at the meter if you can do so without risk, then leave and phone from outside the gas emergency line of your distributor (free number on your bill, for Italgas 800 900 999, free, 24 hours a day) or 112.

The most common causes

Ignition failure
This is the meaning of E01 on older models and of 133 on newer ones. Gas not arriving, a dirty or worn electrode, a faulty gas valve.

Insufficient water pressure
On older Baxi units, E10 indicates the hydraulic pressure switch has locked out, the sensor that checks there is enough water in the system. On recent models, low pressure has its own code, E118.

Faulty outdoor probe
On recent Baxi condensing boilers, E10 instead signals the outdoor probe, the temperature sensor mounted outside the house that regulates the heating.
What you can safely check yourself
- Read the model on the data plate: it tells you which code table applies to your boiler.
- Check the pressure with the boiler cold and, if it is low, top up from the filling valve to the manual value.
- If the hob works and there is no smell of gas in the house, press reset once: on many Baxi units you hold the R button for a couple of seconds.
- Note whether the code returns at once, after a few minutes or only when you open the hot water.
Never open the boiler or the gas water heater, and always switch off the power before touching an electrical appliance. If in doubt, call us.
When you need a technician at home
- E01 or 133 return even though gas arrives normally
- E10 shows on a recent model and the outdoor probe needs checking
- The pressure falls again a few days after topping up

The most common Baxi boiler error codes
E01 (lockout from ignition failure): on older models, such as the Eco Four, it means the burner did not light and the boiler stopped. Check that gas reaches the house, then press reset once. If the code returns, the electrode and the gas valve need checking.
E10 (hydraulic pressure switch locked out or faulty outdoor probe): here the meaning changes with the model. On older Baxi units, such as the Eco Four, it indicates the hydraulic pressure switch has locked out, usually linked to little water in the system. On recent condensing models, such as the Luna Duo-tec E, it signals a fault in the outdoor probe and a technician is needed.
133 (ignition failure after five attempts): on recent models, such as the Luna Duo-tec E, it appears when the boiler fails to light. The manual provides for the reset with the dedicated button, held for at least 2 seconds. If the code repeats, the problem is in the gas supply or the ignition.
E118 (circuit pressure too low): this is the pressure code on recent models. Top up from the filling valve to the manual value; if it falls again, there is a leak to find.

On some Baxi units the code shows with an E in front, on others only as a number next to a symbol. The meanings explained here come from the Baxi manuals of the models mentioned; for your boiler the table in its own manual applies.
