Ariston and Chaffoteaux boiler service in Naples

501 concerns the flame: do not open the boiler to clean the electrodes and do not touch the gas valve. If you smell gas in the house, the priority is to get out safely: do not use switches, lights or appliances, do not light flames, throw the windows open, close the gas at the meter only if you can do so without risk, then from outside call the distributor's gas emergency line (the free number is on your bill; for Italgas, 800 900 999, free, 24 hours a day) or 112.
Recognise the problem

The most common causes

Flame not detected
This is the case of 501: the boiler tried to light but did not detect the flame. Often the gas is missing, or the ignition and detection electrodes are dirty.

Pressure below the minimum threshold
108 means there is little water in the system. It can be topped up, but if it returns often there is a leak or an expansion vessel to check.

Insufficient circulation
The codes from 103 to 107, 104 among them, say the water is not circulating enough in the boiler: pump blocked or slow, air in the circuit, dirty filter.
What you can safely check yourself
- Photograph the exact code and the data plate: on Ariston and Chaffoteaux the meaning has to be read in the model's table.
- Read the pressure and, if it is low, top up from the filling valve to the manual value.
- With 501, if the hob lights and you smell no gas, press reset once.
- With 104, check whether the radiator valves are all closed: without a path the water circulates poorly.
Never open the boiler or the gas water heater, and always switch off the power before touching an electrical appliance. If in doubt, call us.

The most common Ariston boiler error codes
501 (flame not detected): the boiler tried to light, did not see the flame and locked out. On the display it can appear as 5 01 or with the word Err, and it does not clear by itself. Check that gas reaches the house and press reset once. If it returns, the ignition and the gas valve need checking.
108 (insufficient water pressure): there is not enough water in the system and the boiler stops for safety. Top up from the filling valve to the manual value and the boiler restarts. If you have to do it often, the manual itself advises having a technician look for leaks.
104 (insufficient circulation): it belongs to the group of codes from 103 to 107, which signal water circulating poorly in the boiler circuit. Check the pressure first. If it is right and the code stays, the likely causes are the pump, air or a clogged filter, and the boiler has to be opened by a technician.
Chaffoteaux: same group, check the manual
Chaffoteaux belongs to the Ariston group and we repair its boilers like Ariston ones. What changes is the manual: each model has its own error table.
The codes explained above come from the manual of the Ariston Clas One. On Chaffoteaux and on other Ariston models the numbering can be different: compare the code with the table in your manual or, if you have lost it, send us a photo of the code and of the data plate with the model.

What does error 501 mean on an Ariston boiler?
That the boiler did not detect the flame during ignition and locked out. The most common causes are gas not arriving or a dirty electrode. You can press reset once; if 501 returns, you need the technician.
Ariston error 108: how do I solve it?
It is low pressure. With the boiler cold, open the filling valve, bring the pressure to the manual value and close it well. If 108 returns often, there is a leak to look for.
Is error 104 serious?
It is not dangerous, but it says the water is not circulating well: if the boiler carries on like this it overheats and locks out. Check the pressure and, if the code stays, have the pump and circuit checked.
Do you also repair Chaffoteaux boilers?
Yes. Send us a photo of the code and the data plate: on Chaffoteaux the error table has to be checked in the model's manual, because it does not always match the Ariston one.
