Water heater replacement in Naples: what it costs
When the tank leaks or faults keep coming back, replacing the water heater costs less than continuing to repair it. First, though, you need to choose well: type, litres, connections, available space. We help you choose, even remotely if you show us where it will go, and we confirm the exact price before we start.

Do not remove or connect a gas water heater yourself: it is work on the gas system that belongs to a qualified business and ends with the declaration of conformity. Before disconnecting an electric water heater, the power must be cut at the fuse box.
Recognise the problem
- Water comes out of the tank body
- You have already replaced the element or valve and the fault comes back
- The hot water is no longer enough for everyone in the family
- The gas water heater is old and the flue needs reviewing
- You want to switch to a unit that uses less energy
The most common causes
- 1
Corroded tank
When the magnesium anode has been used up for some time, rust attacks the tank. Once perforated, it cannot be repaired.
- 2
Limescale and worn parts
The element, thermostat and valve can be replaced several times, but on an old unit full of limescale each repair lasts less than the one before.
- 3
Capacity no longer right
A water heater chosen when one person lived in the home is not enough when you become three or four. It should be sized on the showers you actually take.
- 4
Change of type
Some people switch from gas to electric, or from electric to a heat pump, for space, for running costs or because the flue is no longer in order.
What you can safely check yourself
- Photograph the rating plate of the current water heater: litres, power and model
- Measure the available space in height, width and depth
- See whether the water connections are at the bottom or at the side and photograph them
- For an electric water heater, check that there is a dedicated socket or switch nearby
- Think about how many showers are taken one after another at peak times
Never open the boiler or the gas water heater, and always switch off the power before touching an electrical appliance. If in doubt, call us.
When you need a technician at home
- The water heater has to be removed and the new one fitted and connected
- The connections or position change and the pipes need modifying
- A gas water heater is being replaced and the flue needs checking
- You are moving to a heat pump water heater and the position has to be assessed

Electric, gas or heat pump
The electric storage water heater is the simplest to fit: it needs the water connections and a suitable electrical line. The capacity, for example 50, 80 or 100 litres, is chosen according to how many showers you take one after another, not according to the size of the home.
A gas water heater heats the water as it passes through, so it does not run out like a tank, but it needs a gas connection and a correct flue. Replacing it is work on the gas system. It is carried out by a business qualified for letter E, which issues the declaration of conformity at the end.
A heat pump water heater takes heat from the air and uses less electricity than a conventional water heater, but it costs more and needs space and air around it. On video we assess whether the place you have allows it.
Prices, tax relief and disposal
In the Naples area, labour alone to replace a water heater is around €120, while an installation generally costs between €50 and €130. The price rises if connections have to be moved, pipes redone or the flue brought up to standard. That is why we give you the price after seeing the system and before starting.
On tax relief for replacing a water heater in 2026, we do not quote percentages: the rules change and depend on the type of unit and on your situation. Before buying, check with your accountant or on the Agenzia delle Entrate website which documents you will need.
The old electric water heater is electrical waste, known as RAEE, and must be taken to the recycling centre, not left next to the bins.
Want to know what it is first? Show us
You show us the current water heater, the rating plate, the water connections, the gas socket or tap and, for gas units, the flue. With that information we recommend the right type and capacity and prepare the quote. We then confirm the measurements and the flue on site.
Video consultation, up to 15 minutes: €9.90 (€14.90 on Sundays), deducted from the bill if we then come to your home.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to replace a water heater?
For labour alone in the Naples area, about €120, plus the unit. The exact price depends on the connections, the position and, for gas, the flue.
Can I replace a gas water heater with an electric one?
Yes, it is often done when the flue would need redoing or when you want to remove gas from a room. You need an electrical line suited to the power of the new unit, and the gas point must be closed off and made safe by a qualified business.
What capacity do I need?
It depends on how many showers you take one after another, more than on the size of the home. On a video call you tell us your habits and we recommend the right size, taking the space into account too.
Is there tax relief for replacing a water heater in 2026?
There are incentives for some works, especially when moving to a more efficient unit, but the requirements and percentages change. Check with your accountant or on the Agenzia delle Entrate website before you buy.
Is a heat pump water heater worth it?
It uses less electricity than a conventional water heater, but it costs more and needs space and air around it. It is worth it if the home uses a lot of hot water and you have a suitable place to fit it.
