Tap and mixer replacement in Naples
A dripping tap wastes water all day and limescale makes it worse quickly. We replace taps and mixers in Naples and across Campania, but first we look with you at whether changing one internal part is enough. It often costs less and the tap closes properly again.

Recognise the problem
- It drips from the spout even with the lever closed
- Water comes out at the base of the lever when you open it
- The kitchen mixer leaks from underneath when you swivel the spout
- The lever is stiff, clicks or no longer mixes hot and cold properly
- You find water in the cabinet under the sink, on the bottom or on the hoses
The most common causes
- 1
Worn cartridge
In single-lever mixers the cartridge does all the work: a small cylinder with two ceramic discs sliding over each other. Limescale scratches them and water passes even when the tap is closed.
- 2
Seals and O-rings
O-rings are rubber rings that seal between moving parts. In kitchen mixers with a swivel spout they are the first to fail, and water runs down under the body of the tap.
- 3
Spindle of the old tap
In two-handle taps there is the spindle, the part that, as it screws down, presses a washer and shuts off the water. If it drips, often it is enough to change the washer or the spindle.
- 4
Supply hoses
These are the two braided metal pipes that connect the tap to the valves in the wall. With the years they rust and the fitting leaks: sometimes the tap has nothing to do with it.
- 5
Cracked body or damaged threads
If the metal body is cracked or the threads are worn, no spare part will hold: the mixer must be replaced.
What you can safely check yourself
- Close the small valves under the sink, turning them clockwise or putting the lever across the pipe. If the tap stops dripping, the valves hold and you can work in peace.
- Dry everything under the sink with kitchen paper and reopen the valves: see whether the first drop comes from the hose, the nut or the body of the tap.
- Look for the brand, often engraved on the body or the lever, and photograph it close up: you need it to find the right cartridge.
- If you have to buy the cartridge, take out the old one first and bring it to the shop. The most common are 35 and 40 mm in diameter, but height and fittings also vary.
- Unscrew the aerator, the small filter at the tip of the spout, and clean it: sometimes a tap that seems faulty just has limescale.
Never open the boiler or the gas water heater, and always switch off the power before touching an electrical appliance. If in doubt, call us.
When you need a technician at home
- The mixer must be replaced and the fittings in the wall are old or seized
- The valves under the sink do not close and you have to close the main valve
- A built-in shower mixer has to be replaced, with its body set into the wall
- The hose is seized on the tap and you risk twisting the pipe in the wall
- You cannot find a cartridge compatible with your model

Dripping tap: what to do
Squeezing the lever harder does not help: in modern mixers it changes nothing and you risk breaking the cartridge. Close the valves under the sink so the drip stops, and decide calmly.
If the tap is only a few years old and the body is sound, changing the cartridge is the most sensible choice. Put a cloth in the plughole so a screw does not fall into the trap. Then remove the coloured cap on the lever, undo the screw, slide off the lever and unscrew the ring that holds the cartridge. The new part goes in the same way round as the old one.
If instead the tap is old, full of limescale or leaks from several points, the spare parts plus labour come close to the cost of a new tap. On video we tell you frankly what makes more sense.
Replacing the shower mixer
An exposed shower mixer, with the body in view and two connections in the wall, can be changed without touching the tiles. The connections have eccentric fittings, deliberately off-centre, which you turn to adjust the distance. The standard is 15 cm between the two connections.
A built-in mixer is another story: the body is set into the wall and outside you only see the plate and the lever. Almost always the cartridge or the internal unit is changed, because replacing the body means breaking the tiles. It is worth first looking for the original spare part by brand and model.
By showing the plate and lever on a video call, we can often recognise the model and tell you whether the spare part can still be found.
Want to know what it is first? Show us
On a video call we look at where the water comes from: the spout, the base of the lever or underneath the sink. That tells us whether it is the cartridge, a seal or the flexible hose, and we tell you which spare part to buy. Many times you can change the cartridge yourself with us on the line.
Video consultation, up to 15 minutes: €9.90 (€14.90 on Sundays), deducted from the bill if we then come to your home.

Frequently asked questions
The mixer leaks from underneath: is it a write-off?
Not necessarily. If it leaks from the base of the swivel spout, it is usually the O-rings. If the water is under the sink it may be just a flexible hose. Close the valves, dry everything and see where the first drop starts.
How much does it cost to replace a tap in Naples?
On the Naples market replacement costs roughly between 70 and 150 €, depending on the type of tap and the condition of the connections. We give you the exact price after seeing it, before we start.
Can I change the cartridge myself?
Yes, if the valves under the sink close properly and you have the right spare part. A screwdriver, an adjustable spanner and some care over the order of the parts are enough. On a video call we follow you step by step.
How often should sink flexible hoses be changed?
There is no fixed deadline: they are changed when the braid is rusty, stained or bulging, or when the fitting seeps. If you replace the tap it is worth fitting new hoses, because they cost little and are the most delicate point.
Which tap should I buy if I need to replace it?
First look at what you have: one lever or two handles, mounted on the sink or on the wall, with which connections. On video we check space and fittings together, so you avoid buying a model that then does not fit.
